Wapawekka to Deschambault

About this Canoe Route

Wapawekka to Deschambault

The Wapawekka Lake to Deschambault Lake canoe trip is a historical canoe route that takes you down the Deschambault River. Large lakes and few portage trails around the many rapids make this trip appropriate for paddlers with advanced canoe tripping skills. This is a route less travelled but not because it is lacking in anything.

You will transition in and out of shield country throughout this trip. Solid granite points to sandy beaches, some rapids are short and ledgy, where others are long and bouldery. Portages are generally hard to find and many are overgrown so be prepared to run or line most of the rapids on this trip.

Travel through the boreal forest and get away into the wilderness as you travel along the canoe route that has been used for centuries as a means of access between Lac La Ronge and the north-east of Saskatchewan.

Montreal River Outpost provides Shuttle service in and out of this route.
