MRO to Nut Point

About this Canoe Route

MRO to Nut Point

Access the Nut Point Trail by water! Paddle from our Montreal River Outpost dock, see La Ronge town from a different vantage point, scoot along Campbell Channel or between Freeman & MacNair Island to camp at Nut Point, Marker 6. The paddle is generally much more leisurely through protected channels, but the point itself can be quite exposed, so be wary of wind conditions.

Nut Point Trail is not stereotypical Saskatchewan terrain. With stark elevation changes & viewpoints of Lac La Ronge and its beautiful waters, this offers both great challenge and highlights.

Options abound here. If part of your gang prefers hiking or biking to paddling they can meet you at Nut Point. Or switch out for the return trip. With multiple portage options, paddlers can explore either side of Nut Point peninsula. The north side, out of McGibbon Bay, is particularly picturesque, with high cliffs and hidden sand beaches in the coves. On the south side, you may discover a jumping cliff.

The trip is 20km each way. The trips can be shortened by 5km by starting at the Nut Point Campground boat launch.

Montreal River Outpost offers canoe & kayak rentals for this unique adventure. Contact us about our boat shuttle service to or from Marker 6, the end of the Nut Point Trail. We can drop off canoes/kayaks/bikes/gear and crew or pick you up at the end too!
