Four Portages Loop

About this Canoe Route

Four Portages Loop

The Four Portages canoe trip is one of the longer canoe routes in the Stanley Mission/Nistowiak Falls area. One of the main things that make this a 5-6 day trip is the amount of portages required to complete the trip. There are a total of 7 portages, with some of the being rather long.

The biggest highlight of this trip is visiting the breathtaking Nistowiak Falls halfway through the trip. This is a great place to spend the night one your canoe trip past Nistowiak Falls from Four Portages to Stanley Mission.

There is a lot of open lake paddling on this canoe route, so be prepared to spend an extra day in case it's windy outside. The lakes connecting this canoe route are very popular fishing destination with multiple fishing lodges located throughout. Bring a fishing rod with you on this trip, and catch yourself some supper every day!

Towards the end of your trip, just before getting to Stanley Mission you can see some ancient aboriginal rock paintings just north of Stanley Rapids. A few kilometers from there, you can also stop in at the historical Holy Trinity Anglican Church. The oldest standing church in Saskatchewan.
