McLennan Lake to Churchill River-Fernside/Stauffer Route

About this Canoe Route

McLennan Lake to Churchill River-Fernside/Stauffer Route

You will get to explore an array of small to medium-sized lakes from your put-in at Bear's Camp at McLennan Lake to your take-out at Missinipe. Book your shuttles from Montreal River Outpost for this northern Saskatchewan trek.

Fernside and Stauffer lakes have a similar long, narrow shape, though Stauffer has a slight edge in size. The portages between Kliman Lake and Ducker Lake are medium in length, so your muscles will get a good workout. There are creeks which connect one lake to the other through muskeg.

Once at Ducker Lake, you have two options. One option is to paddle the bays of French Lake before heading to Missinipe via Otter Lake; the other is to descend Rattler Creek -take a gander at historic rock paintings- and explore the many islands of Otter Lake before finishing at Missinipe. Both are great options.

This route is a great option for exploring both the intricacies of McLennan Lake Canoe Area & the water, land, & rock of the Churchill River. A two-for-one deal!
