Four Portages Loop

About this Canoe Route

Four Portages Loop

After your put-in at Leckie Lake, the first part of this trip, to the Churchill River's Mountain Lake north of Stanley Mission, is characterized by small to medium-sized lakes accessed by medium-sized portages.

Before heading south to Stanley Mission, be sure to gaze at the rock painting on the northern shore of the bay after the portage into Mountain Lake.

On your way to Nistowiak Falls, you get to look at the Stanley Mission church, as well as Stanley Rapids. Drope Lake and Nistowiak Lake's McMorris Bay have several campsite options.

Nistowiak Falls -Airplane Falls at the top, Nistowiak Falls in the middle, and Fisher Rapids at the bottom-is a paddler's picturesque dream.

Iskwatikan Lake, Hale Lake, and the Rapid River provide access to Lac La Ronge. Enjoy the perk of a railway cart portage off Hale Lake!

The last part of this awesome trip is to dart in and out of the islands of the northern edge of Lac La Ronge before ending your trip in Four Portages Bay. The character of the northern half of Lac La Ronge is island of various shapes and sizes for you to explore. Montreal River Outpost can provide shuttle service and canoe rentals for this well-rounded wilderness canoeing adventure!
